The Prince’s Ex — Nadene Seiters
I have to be honest. I had never heard of this author before I read this book. She sent me an email a couple of months ago asking if I’d be interested in reading her book. I read the synopsis and was intrigued so I said yes.
Even though it’s taken me (what feels like) forever to finally read the book, I’m happy that I did. It was very well written and an enjoyable read.
It’s definitely a story about the main character — Amelia — learning to get over heartbreak and how to navigate the world of love again. Throughout the book she has to overcome a failed relationship, weird first dates, some insecurities about herself, another almost failed relationship, and the potential ruin of her happily ever after. It’s quite a journey she has to go on, and it was fun reading and following along with her as things happened.
At the start of the book, Amelia has just suffered a bad break up with a man who she’d believed she might one day marry. Unfortunately, politics and royal duties got in the way of that. Amelia’s best friend Tina decides that Amelia needs to start dating again so that she can properly move on with her life.
I don’t know about you, but blind dates have never worked well for me. They didn’t work out too well for Amelia either.
I liked Amelia. There were times that her insecurities about herself and what people might be thinking about her got a tad annoying, but overall… I liked who she was. Yes, she may have been a little on the insecure side (all of us are about something) but when it really counted… and when it was really important, she was a fierce woman who knew what she wanted and what she didn’t want. I couldn’t decide throughout the book if I liked her, or her cat Mobley better. He had some of the same qualities that my cat possesses, so maybe that’s why I liked him so much.
Tina was a treat. She owns a yoga studio (something I’m horrible at — downward facing dog is NOT my friend) and she genuinely loved Amelia and wanted the best for her… even if some of those attempts aren’t the best. Tina isn’t afraid to speak her mind and if she think’s her friend is being stupid, she lets her know about it.
The men in The Prince’s Ex were fun to read. The first blind date guy was hilarious and so not what Amelia was expecting (thanks, Tina). The Ex (Simon) was a pompous asshat and I didn’t like him at all. Admittedly, he wasn’t in the story a whole lot, but I still didn’t like him. I felt bad for the boss man/almost boyfriend Clint. You can’t make chemistry happen. I loved Peter though. He was my favorite…probably of the whole book. I loved his personality and how he let Amelia be her own person. It also didn’t hurt that he was a barista (I do love coffee).
Would I read more books by Nadene Seiters? Yes, I would. I thought her writing style was different from what I’m used to, and I liked it. I would also recommend The Prince’s Ex to anyone and everyone that is looking for a cute romance to read. It’s not as steamy sex-wise as some of the books I typically read, but it’s still a sexy book.
